- On November 24, 2024, BSPAN convened its 2nd Coordination Meeting at U-Multipurpose Hall, Dhaka, building on previous initiatives to advance social protection for Bangladeshi workers. Chaired by Ms. Saki Rezwana, the meeting emphasized collective action to address pressing labor issues, with active participation from 15 members.Key achievements highlighted included workshops and training sessions focused on marginalized workers, particularly in the RMG sector. Initiatives ranged from strategic skill development to advocating for the ratification of ILO Convention No. 102, fostering comprehensive social security systems. Events like International Decent Work Day spotlighted the importance of equitable labor policies and social protection.
Future plans aim to strengthen BSPAN’s advocacy efforts. These include launching an informational website, organizing a high-level dialogue on adaptive social protection, publishing a newsletter summarizing annual activities, and hosting an AGM to review progress. Members prioritized expanding outreach to local districts, involving policymakers, and addressing unemployment as a critical social protection issue.
To maximize impact, the meeting emphasized developing timely IEC materials, increasing member participation, and maintaining quality in all activities. These strategies underscore BSPAN’s commitment to advancing workers’ rights and social equity in Bangladesh.
